Lilli Grace's Legacy

*Please see urgent prayer request after post*

I heard a heartbreaking story this morning on the radio. While driving to the gym I was listening to 104.7 The Fish here in Atlanta and a precious young father was on. He talked about his daughter, Lilli Grace. She died in December 2007 ... exactly the day that our own little Grace turned 2. You see, this sweet young father accidently ran over his own little Lilli Grace. Heartbreaking. I sit here in tears as I write this. She was just 18 months old. Her birthday is Saturday, May 24, and she would've been 2.

I have always been a little more than paranoid of this happening to me or someone I love. My mom used to be special ed. school bus driver and it wasn't uncommon for her to have a student that had been accidently run over. And a friend of a friend had this happen to their sweet little son and he died a few years ago. You might remember seeing them on Oprah - his name was Jackson.

Please visit Lilli Grace's website and consider donating to her memorial foundation. One thing that Paul (that's the precious father) talked about was child safety and possibly making "Lilli Pads" - something that a family could have for all the children to stand on or near any time a car is arriving or leaving the driveway or garage. I think that is an excellent idea and I would certainly buy some.

At the very least PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE always be aware at all times of the location of your children when you are in the car and they are not. It's not enough to check for them, for that's what Paul did. Children, especially toddlers, can move super fast. They must be out of harm's way, perhaps standing in a specific spot where you can see them at all times. Come up with a plan. I know that I have and will make sure I enfore it from now on.

Please visit Lilli Grace's website and watch the video celebrating her life. Pray for this sweet family as they struggle with the reality that Lilli Grace is no longer here. And then take the time to treasure each moment you have with your children.

I just read on Angie's blog that Steven Curtis Chapman's son just accidently hit their adopted daughter, 5-year-old Maria and it killed her - please pray!

Ugh. This story is heart-wrenching. I will remember this family in my prayers.

This is why Nathan always backs the cars in when he goes anywhere. It used to annoy me that he took so much time to park, but I quickly understand how helpful it is.

We have a system of picking a spot near our car (currently a specific square on the sidewalk) where the kids must all plant their feet (meaning put both in and don't even march in place!) when a car pulls in or one of us is leaving.

Thank you for the reminder.

This is just awful. I can't even imagine what that poor father must be going through.

Please pray!!! This morning I read on Angie's blog (wife to Todd in Selah) that Steven Curtis Chapman's son just accidently ran over their adopted daughter - 5-year-old Maria and it killed her!

We can't be too careful!

Heather, first let me tell you that you have a great blogspot here. Also, I want to tell you thanks for your story on my daughter, Lilli Grace. We miss her bad, and we are celebrating(if that is the correct word-doesn't feel much like a celebration) her 2nd birthday today. We are dedicated to raising awareness of the issue of kids and cars and safety. Please keep updated on her webpage as we are fervently attempting to make the "Lilli Pads" available ASAP.

Again, thank you so much for telling our story. Blessings to you and your family.

Hmmm ... what to say about me ...

I am complex, to say the least. I love Jesus, my husband, my family and my friends. Color inspires me and I heart photography. Well, I heart just about anything creative ... from sewing to cooking to painting to coloring in coloring books with my children.

Did I say I was complex? I am bit obsessive, so I change my blog's look often ... please bear with me :)

I prefer White House Custom Color for all my photo printing needs!
